In the Primary Class, preschool and kindergarten children find a learner's
paradise of intriguing educational activities and opportunities for healthy
social growth. The teachers use Montessori materials plus many of their
own innovations to create a prepared environment that gives children
choices and at the same time leads them to develop essential skills and
master important concepts.
Activities build concentration and coordination, encourage creative
exploration and provide a strong foundation for problem solving, reading,
writing and math. They are designed to promote independence, stimulate
social interaction and develop strong language skills. The children receive
frequent one-on-one instruction in addition to large and small group
sessions. The 5-hour school day affords plenty of time for outdoor learning
and cooperative play. Enrollment options include 2, 3 or 5 days per week.
The class also works daily with Juanita Ramsey-Jevne, the arts, music and
horse-riding specialist. With her many years of early childhood education
experience, Juanita knows just how to teach children basic skills and
inspire them in a deep love of art and music.
A particular strength of the Primary Class is the kindergarten program.
Over the past 100 years, the Montessori Method has proved extremely
effective at teaching children beginning reading, writing and math. The
approach starts with the true "basics", the sensorial and perceptual skills
children need to master printed numbers, letters and words. Instruction in
individual, so the learner is always challenged but never frustrated.
